A gigantic hurricane that has caught a shark shoal off the California coast and swept it up into the air is heading for Los Angeles. Holy shark! They're back! One year after the events of the world's first "Sharknado", Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering), the hero from L.A., is on a plane to New York with his wife April (Tara Reid). Through a self-help book written by April with the beautiful title "How to Survive a Sharknado", the couple has brought it to some fame. But instead of a relaxing trip to Fin's hometown, where his sister Ellen (Kari Wuhrer) and her husband Martin (Mark McGrath) live with their children, everything goes wrong from the start: The plane is attacked by sharks, which bite off poor April's hand. And New York is also about to sink into chaos: three Sharknados are racing towards Manhattan, bringing tons of killer sharks with them! Now only one option remains: Together with his father (David Hasselhoff), Fin lets himself be shot into space in a NASA rocket to stop the SHARKNADOS with a gigantic laser beam. But even in orbit or on the moon there is no 100% safety from the razor-sharp teeth of the sharks...

Fin (Ian Ziering) has travelled 66 million years into the past, to the end of the Cretaceous period, with the time machine he received from his son Gil from the future, to prevent the creation of the very first Sharknado. Arriving there shortly before a gigantic meteor puts an end to the age of the dinosaurs, he unexpectedly meets old companions again. Among them is his wife April (Tara Reid), who was thought to be dead and who has followed him back into time. But Fin and his friends cannot prevent the primeval shark, a megalodon, from becoming part of a new Sharknado and they escape back to the future on the back of a pterodactyl. On their way back they stop off in the Middle Ages and fight side by side with Merlin and his knights against the flying sharks, visit the later first US President George Washington in the War of Independence against the French, or fight side by side with Billy The Kid against the flying eating machines. This time it's not about how to stop the Sharknado, but at what time...
